Apple Final Cut Pro 11 Adds AI Features Powered by M Chips

After more than a decade, Apple has released Final Cut Pro 11, its first major update to the non-linear editing app. New features include AI-powered masking, spatial video editing for projects destined for the Apple Vision Pro and the ability to generate captions directly in the timeline, as well as some general workflow improvements. Final Cut Pro 11 is free for current users while newbies will pay $299 for a one-time purchase. Nvidia Unveils Omniverse Blueprint Real-Time Physics Engine

Nvidia has taken the wraps off Omniverse Blueprint, a real-time physics engine designed to create digital twins. The software is optimized for computational fluid dynamics (CFD), allowing virtual exploration and refinement of objects that must function in the real world — things like automobiles, airplanes, ships — that are put to everyday use and tasked for production in the field and on set. One of the first use cases is a virtual wind tunnel that lets users simulate and visualize fluid dynamics at interactive speeds, even when changing the vehicle model as it navigates the tunnel. Hangout Is a New Social Platform with Music Listening Rooms

Hangout is a new service that wants to make enjoying music more of a social experience. The platform, from Turntable Labs, is available on iOS, Android and the Web. At launch, Hangout offers more than 100 million songs, available to stream globally as a result of deals with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group as well as indie rights group Merlin. Users can select an avatar and invite friends to their personal ‘hangout’ space, taking turns playing songs from their favorite artists in the virtual DJ booth. Read more

Roblox Tightens Child Safety Guidelines Amidst Media Outcry

Capitulating to outside pressure, after a barrage of media reports citing unsafe conditions for minors, Roblox is implementing new safeguards. Parents can now access parental controls from their own devices in addition to their child’s device and monitor their child’s screen time. New content labels and improvements to how users under age 13 can communicate on Roblox are additional protections that are now baked into the platform. “We’ve spent nearly two decades building strong safety systems, but we are always evolving our systems as new technology becomes available,” explained the Roblox. YouTube Introduces Jewels, a New Way for Creators to Earn

YouTube has come up with a new way for creators to earn. During vertical live streams, viewers can now gift hosts with “Jewels,” a form of digital currency available for purchase. The gifts appear onscreen as animations during vertical live streams, but are a cash equivalent for creators. The initial denomination, “Rubies,” equal one cent per stone, or about $1 per 100 Rubies. The new feature is rolling out to eligible creators in the U.S. who are currently enrolled in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and have accepted the Virtual Items Module in YouTube Studio.
