Paramount+ Adds Showtime in Single App at Special Pricing

Paramount+ is now available with Showtime in a single app. Paramount+ subscribers can upgrade their package to include the premium cable channel’s content at discounted pricing through October 2. Paramount Global had been selling a Paramount+ and Showtime bundle for the past year, but the content had to be accessed through separate apps. The promotional pricing sees Paramount+ with Showtime available to U.S. subscribers at $7.99 per month with ads, the Essential Plan, representing a discount of 33 percent, and $12.99 per month ad-free under the Premium Plan, for 13 percent off from the regular bundle pricing.

The discounted pricing locks in for the life of the subscription or until Paramount change the terms. Paramount will continue to make Showtime available as a standalone service for $10.99 per month as well as through third-parties. After October 2, pricing for the Essential tier adjusts to $11.99 per month and the Premium tier $14.99 per month. Showtime content will run ad-free in the Paramount+ Essential Plan.

Variety points out that the unified Paramount+ and Showtime “provides a potential model for Warner Bros. Discovery, which plans to merge HBO Max and Discovery+ into a single platform starting in the summer of 2023.” WBD has yet to disclose pricing.

Paramount Global streaming president and CEO Tom Ryan said in an announcement that the  Paramount+ and Showtime bundle is an “unprecedented value,” offering “one of the broadest content libraries in streaming at one of the lowest prices in the marketplace.”

The ad-supported Essential Plan, at $9.99 per month, combines marquee sports, including NFL games and more than 2,000 soccer matches each year, with on-demand entertainment options spanning the full suite of current and upcoming shows and movies, as well as breaking news through CBSN.

The Premium Plan, at $12.99 per month, features commercial-free, on-demand entertainment with 4K, HDR and Dolby Vision and mobile downloads; an extended roster of must-watch sports; and live streams of local affiliates in over 200 markets across the U.S. Variety notes that “the Essential Plan does not include access to live streams from CBS local affiliates, which is available in the Paramount+ Premium Plan.”

Last month, Walmart struck a deal to offer Paramount+ Essentials for free to Walmart+ subscribers. Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish said his goal is to have 100 million Paramount+ subscribers by 2024.
