CES 2016: ETC Begins Show Coverage with December Previews

ETC coverage of the upcoming 2016 CES begins on December 7 with a 3-week series of previews on the top trends and technologies expected to be on display. CES, presented by the newly re-named Consumer Technology Association (formerly CEA), runs from January 4-9 in Las Vegas. At CES, ETC will have a team of dedicated reporters and analysts preparing twice daily email briefs and delivering breaking news as it happens. Following the show, ETC publishes a comprehensive report that distills from the massive trade event the key themes most likely to impact the media and entertainment industry.

ETC’s reporting team plans to focus on Virtual and Augmented Reality, Mobility and the Internet of Things, Wearable Tech and Sensors, Games and Game Platforms, Automotive, Blockchain, Security and Policy. This year, ETC also plans to include a set of perspectives from Millennials and Generation Z.

Each year, CES becomes more and more the epicenter of technology and innovations that touch every aspect of life. Evidence of the importance of media and entertainment is reflected in the selection of Netflix CEO Reed Hastings as the opening day keynote, a position that has typically been filled by consumer electronics giants.

Last year, CES attracted more than 176,000 attendees to marvel at everything from autonomous cars to the tiniest app startup. “For the 2016 edition, we focus on contextual awareness, the future of retail, the connected smart home, how tech is transforming Hollywood, and smart cities that will enrich lives and engage residents,” writes Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Technology Association in his introduction to CTA’s annual 5 Technology Trends to Watch report.

CTA calls CES “the world’s gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for almost 50 years — the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace. As the largest hands-on event of its kind, CES features all aspects of the industry. And because it is owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) — formerly the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) — the technology trade association representing the $285 billion U.S. consumer technology industry, it attracts the world’s business leaders and pioneering thinkers to a forum where the industry’s most relevant issues are addressed.”
