The Sony PlayStation VR2 will be available for purchase for $549.99 starting February 22, 2023, with pre-orders beginning November 15. With 4K HDR support, OLED displaying 2000×2040 pixels per eye, 110-degree field of view and a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, the VR2 offers many improvements over its predecessor. There are four cameras built into the front of the headset, eliminating a need for external cameras to track movements.
“The new orb-shaped PSVR2 Sense controllers include adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, much like the DualSense, and can also detect finger touches,” reports The Verge.
The PSVR2 headset includes “an integrated vent for extra air flow, and a lens adjustment dial for a more customized feel,” the overall intent being a slimmer, lighter design “with comfort in mind,” explained Isabelle Tomatis, VP of brand and hardware for Sony Interactive Entertainment. It also supports 3D audio and eye tracking.
IGN calls it “a modern entry into the VR landscape, with top-notch visual fidelity and comfortable ergonomics” and suggests, “its haptics and adaptive triggers, if implemented well, will be a welcome addition to the immersive experience.”
For $599.99, purchasers will also get a PlayStation Store voucher code for the upcoming “Horizon Call of the Mountain” being developed specifically for the VR2 and its Sense controllers. The Sense controller charging station will be sold separately, for $49.99.

While some 500 games have been released for the PSVR, Sony’s getting started on titles for the PSVR2, among them “Resident Evil 8,” “Resident Evil 4,” and “No Man’s Sky,” as well as VR2 games for “Star Wars” and “The Walking Dead.”
