Avid Debuts ‘Media Production in the Cloud’ by Subscription

Avid is moving its workflow to the cloud, providing its popular on-site editing interface to distributed production teams that will now have instant access to assets across platforms, from broadcast and cable to web and social media. Geared towards news and sports operations, the Avid Media Production in the Cloud subscription service offers a secure and convenient way to integrate existing tools and workflows with the power of the cloud “without committing to a forklift overhaul or the need for additional training,” Avid director of solutions marketing, media and cloud Raul Alba said of the rollout.

“Live, and by this we mean primarily sports and news, has been one of the most cautious to embrace the cloud,” writes RedShark. “What Avid is doing with its new Media Production in the Cloud subscription makes a lot of sense. It’s essentially a ready-built cloud ecosystem that takes an organization’s existing Avid set-up, MediaCentral systems and Avid NEXIS storage, and deploys it in the cloud.”

“Any users anywhere in the world, with the small caveat that they have bandwidth at their disposal, can then connect and start to search, preview, ingest, edit and publish media,” notes RedShark.

“Teams can use Avid’s MediaCentral Collaborate and other iOS and browser apps to plan and contribute to stories remotely while tracking all aspects of story production,” Avid explains in its announcement. MediaCentral gives editors the flexibility to choose Avid Media Composer or Adobe Premiere Pro to start working immediately on material as it comes in for fast turnaround of stories that are ready to air and stream across broadcast and digital outlets.

TVBEurope touts the convenience of an Avid Media Production in the Cloud workflow “based on the company’s production tools and platforms already used by content creation teams,” while TV Tech emphasizes that “Avid’s MediaCentral subscription solution allows distributed broadcast and digital production teams to collaborate from anywhere” to “quickly deliver breaking news across all platforms, from on-air channels to web and social media.”

With thousands of stories breaking daily all over the world, “distributed TV news and sports production teams need a reliable, secure solution to bring their workflows to the cloud for anywhere, anytime access. Avid makes that possible with its Avid Media Production in the Cloud solution,” the company said.
