CES 2013: ETC Provides Show Recap, 4K Leading Trend (VIDEO)

ETCentric correspondents Carolyn Giardina and George Gerba discuss the major trends on display at this year’s CES in Las Vegas. During the 5-minute video recap, Carolyn and George review this year’s breakout star — 4K — by discussing displays, content, cameras and upscaling technologies. They also address areas such as tablets, smartphones, second screen apps, and glasses-free 3D.

“We saw 56-inch 4K OLED sets from both Sony and Panasonic,” explains Carolyn, “and we saw a variety of sizes in 4K TVs from Samsung, LG and other manufacturers.”

“From Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and Sharp, we saw a new technology that allowed for really nice upscaling from 2K to 4K,” adds George, addressing the concern of 4K content availability for the new TVs.

When asked whether the show could be described as more evolutionary or revolutionary, George suggested, “I think I would more say it’s the beginning of a conversation about 4K — and it’s going to continue over the next few years.”
