Game Pass Grows as Microsoft Updates Xbox Across Devices

Microsoft has updated the Xbox platform across PC, mobile, cloud and handheld gaming. Gaming Copilot, in beta, is now available on the Xbox mobile app, adding a “personal gaming sidekick” in your pocket. On Windows 11 handhelds, the “full screen experience” (FSE), which debuted on the ROG Xbox Ally, “is now available to all players on even more Windows 11 handhelds,” says Microsoft. Players who stream via cloud gaming can now choose the resolution on select titles, with support for up to 1440p. Plus, the Xbox app is coming soon for the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K.

The company has made Xbox Cloud Gaming available in more countries, including India, and players in Brazil and Argentina can now stream games using the Xbox app on LG Smart TVs and Amazon Fire TV devices, Microsoft explains in a news post.

“Game Pass players are also getting more ways to move across screens thanks to over 1,000 Xbox Play Anywhere titles, plus a fast-growing ‘Stream your own game’ library with even more cloud-playable releases,” Digital Trends reports.

“Essentially, the whole Xbox ecosystem is getting a lift: more devices, more games, and more flexibility, no matter where you play,” writes Digital Trends, explaining that “these aren’t just flashy extras” but substantively change play “across nearly every device.”

For instance, Gaming Copilot turns a smartphone into a quick-access assistant for mobile players who need mid-game tips or want to look up stats. “For PC and handheld players, the full screen experience shifts Windows from ‘desktop chaos’ to ‘console-mode calm’” with a controller-friendly UI that “makes your PC feel more like a dedicated gaming machine,” per Digital Trends.

And cloud gamers gain control over streaming quality with the ability to manually select a preferred streaming resolution before launching a title — a top request.

Xbox reports that “cloud gaming hours from Game Pass subscribers has increased 45 percent compared to this time last year,” with console players “spending 45 percent more time cloud streaming on console and 24 percent more on other devices.”

“Microsoft has said Game Pass reached a new annual record of nearly $5 billion in revenue this year” following some big new title releases, writes IGN, adding that all of this news comes “as rumors swirl that Microsoft is reportedly set to launch a free version of Xbox Cloud Gaming with ads for PC, Xbox consoles, handheld devices, and the web.”
