Cloudflare Pay-per-Crawl Lets Publishers Monetize Scrapes

Cloudflare, which spent the past year introducing tools to help content providers prevent unwanted AI scraping, is launching a marketplace that lets websites charge for the privilege of using a “pay-per-crawl” model. The Internet infrastructure and security company says it is the first to enable blocking AI crawlers by default, providing access only with permission and, if wanted, compensation. Google Launches Offerwall Ad Manager to Support Publishers

Google is launching Offerwall, which is designed to help publishers monetize by letting them offer their customers options as to how they would like to pay for content. “People might decide to watch a short ad, complete a quick survey or pay in micropayments,” Google explains, adding that “publishers can even add their own options, like newsletter sign-ups.” The choices aim to both empower audiences while supporting publishers to help ensure diverse content remains available to everyone. Anthropic’s Claude Chatbot Is Now a No-Code App Developer

Anthropic has updated its Claude AI chatbot with the ability to build, host and share AI-powered apps directly in Claude. Launching in beta, the new function builds upon the Artifacts feature Anthropic introduced last year, allowing users to see and interact with what they asked Claude to create. “Now developers can iterate faster on their AI apps without worrying about the complexity and cost of scaling for a growing audience,” according to Anthropic. The San Francisco-based AI startup adds that millions people have already used Claude to create more than 500 million artifacts — from productivity tools to educational games. CineSearch Is a New AI Discovery Tool for Streaming Content

A little over a year since the beta release of its conversational AI search and discovery tool, Cineverse is making cineSearch commercially available to business customers. The Los Angeles startup says its AI-powered framework “solves” the content-hunt quandary for digital networks and streaming services, finding programming across all streaming platforms. Cineverse is making cineSearch available for commercial licensing to OEMs and streaming platforms via the company’s own sales team and through Google Cloud Marketplace. Zencoder Testing Agent Shaves Weeks Off App Development

Startup Zencoder (formerly For Good AI) has launched a cloud-based AI-powered E2E testing agent that simplifies the pipeline from initial code to production-ready applications. Now in public beta, Zentester tackles “verification,” which Zencoder founder and CEO Andrew Filev calls “the missing link” in scaling AI-created code from concept to market-ready app. That complicated process is often delayed by a bottleneck in final testing. Zentester is designed to take that late-stage verification process “from days to hours,” Filev says. Character.AI Goes Wide with AvatarFX, Adds Mobile Features

Chatbot platform Character.AI is rolling out its video generator, AvatarFX, in general release after a month in closed beta. It’s also adding a sharing feature called Scenes and Streams that will serve content to Character.AI’s community feed, coming soon to mobile. Users can now tap AvatarFX to create up to five videos per day, starting by uploading a photo, choosing a voice and writing dialogue for the character. Character.AI started as 1:1 text chat in the summer of 2023. Twitch Announces New Features to Enhance Mobile Viewing

Twitch is upgrading its presentation capabilities with the addition of vertical viewing and dual-format streaming. The popular Amazon-owned gaming platform is also adding 2K video in open beta for all partners and affiliates, broadening accessibility for high-definition formats. In January 2024, Twitch began experimenting with HD including 4K, which remains in closed beta for select users. The format tests were part of Twitch’s Enhanced Broadcast initiative with Nvidia and OBS Studio, purveyor of the open broadcaster format. Creators with access to Enhanced Broadcasting in Twitch Studio can use dual formatting to simultaneously stream in horizontal and vertical formats. YouTube is integrating Google Lens, allowing viewers to search elements of what they see while watching YouTube Shorts. The visual search enhancement aims to provide more ways to unearth information and discover content in an interactive, intuitive way. YouTube provides an example involving a Short filmed on location that features landmarks a viewer may be interested in visiting. In this example, users could ask Google Lens for related information to learn the name of the destination and helpful details regarding its culture and history, results that would appear over the video content as a visual overlay. Amazon Music Beta Tests AI Search in iOS for Unlimited Subs

Amazon Music has unveiled an AI search tool for music discovery, rolling out in beta on iOS to select Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers in the U.S. Powered by Amazon Bedrock, the feature aims to help listeners learn more about their favorite artists. Called Explore, it provides richer recommendations, including curated music collections, and the search results can be used to create AI-generated playlists that are based on an artist, according to Amazon. “This experimental feature includes results for many of your favorite artists today and will continue expanding to include more over time,” Amazon adds. MoviePass Debuts Bitcoin-Based Hollywood Fantasy League

Subscription movie theater ticket sales company MoviePass is taking a cue from fantasy sports with a daily fantasy platform themed around Hollywood. Called Mogul, it has launched in beta with backing from blockchain company Mysten Labs and Hong Kong-based Web3 software company Animoca Brands. Mogul lets users track the performance of fantasy films and compete to climb leaderboards. Players are assigned a budget and given a digital wallet in which to store “studio credits” to fund projects and bet on box office performance. Adobe Launches Its Content Authenticity App in Public Beta

Adobe has released its free Content Authenticity web app in beta. The app is designed to help protect creators’ work and allows them to embed a request that generative AI models don’t use their work for training. Users can apply tags for up to 50 images at once. In addition to applying tags, users can customize and inspect Adobe Content Credentials using the the Adobe Content Authenticity browser extension for Google Chrome. The information is invisible until the inspection tool is opened and can include links to a creator’s social media account, website or other identifying attributes. Character.AI Introduces New Video Generator in Closed Beta

Character.AI, a platform offering AI chatbots for socializing and role play, has released a video generation model called AvatarFX in closed beta. Promising the ability to make photorealistic images “come to life — speak, sing and emote — all with the click of a button,” the technology combines audio and video to create a variety of visual style and voice, from realistic 3D — including “non-human faces (like a favorite pet)” — to 2D animations, according to the company. Anthropic Adds Deep Research, Google Integration to Claude

Anthropic has upgraded its AI assistant Claude, adding Research, an autonomous capability that integrates with Google Workspace. Claude can now search and reference content in Google Docs as well as communications in Gmail and events in Calendar. “With Research, Claude can search across both your internal work context and the web to help you make decisions and take action faster than before,” Anthropic explains, turning the model into a “true virtual collaborator” for enterprise clients. The expansion puts Anthropic into more direct competition with OpenAI and Microsoft as well as Google with Gemini in the AI productivity space. Blackmagic Adds AI-Powered Features to DaVinci Resolve 20

Blackmagic Design has released DaVinci Resolve 20 in public beta, touting 100 AI-centric improvements that aim to save time in a workflow. Among them is AI IntelliScript, which automatically generates a timeline using the transcribed audio in media clips and matching it to the script. From that, it constructs “a timeline of the best selected takes, with any alternative takes placed on additional tracks for editor review,” Blackmagic says. Another, AI MultiCam SmartSwitch, compiles a camera angle timeline based on who is speaking. Meanwhile, AI Audio Assistant puts what Blackmagic calls a “professional audio mix” just a click away. John Gaeta, the Bay Area digital disruptor who won an Oscar as VFX supervisor for “The Matrix,” has launched Escape (escape.ai), a neo cinema hub where global filmmakers, artists and game creators can showcase and monetize original work. Offering a “curated viewing experience” in story, art and experiential content, Escape styles itself as an “experimental” space. “If you like edgy-fun shows like ‘Love Death + Robots’ or the type of stories spun from game worlds, escape.ai is your place,” Gaeta said, describing it as a hybrid platform where premium streaming meets the creator economy.
