Meta Connect just wrapped after showcasing the company’s latest offerings in XR, Meta AI wearables, and more. The long-awaited reveal of the Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses confirmed they are the first Meta glasses with a built-in high-resolution HUD color screen and use an EMG wristband for controls. Meta’s high-performance sports eyewear got an upgrade with the Oakley Meta Vanguard, offering Garmin and Strava integration and video recording in 3K Ultra HD. The Quest VR headset’s new beta feature, Hyperscape, was previewed, turning real-world spaces into virtual worlds. Also, the Quest now features a Horizon TV entertainment hub for streaming.

“There, you’ll find all of the streaming apps available on Quest headsets, including Prime Video, Peacock, Twitch, and YouTube” writes The Verge, adding that “Disney+ with ESPN and Hulu is coming to the platform.”

But the eyewear was clearly the star of the show. The Meta Ray-Ban Display’s 42 ppd heads-up screen lets you read text, take video calls, view maps and watch Reels. The specs record video in 3K and capture images with a 12-megapixel camera.

“The display window pops up in the right eye lens,” reports Wired, noting that “if you close your left eye and just look through the eye in front of the screen, the display view looks great,” but “trying to read the display while looking through the glasses with both eyes feels like crossing your eyes and takes quite a bit of getting used to.”

A live demo of Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg wearing the specs as he walks to the Connect stage gives a nice feel for what they’re like. Zuckerberg calls Display “the most advanced AI glasses we’ve ever sold.” Each pair comes with its own Meta Neural Band, an electromyography (EMG) wristband that translates muscle signals (like finger movements) into commands.

Starting at $799, the Display glasses will be available September 30.

The Oakley Meta Vanguard glasses take advantage of Okaley’s distinctive Sphaera design by moving the 122-degree wide angle camera to the center of the frame, ideal for first-person view footage. They pack up to nine hours of battery life (or six hours of continuous music through “the most powerful speakers” of any Meta AI smart glasses) and come with a charging case that can provide an additional 36 hours on the go.

ZDNet, which covers “every product announced at Meta Connect 2025,” says the Strava integration lets you check your stats as you run. The $499 Vanguard will be available October 21.

Available now starting at $379, the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) glasses got an upgrade with 2x the battery life and video capture in 3K Ultra HD.

Meta talked up a new Horizon Engine to power the Hyperscape feature as well as “better graphics, faster performance” and is capable of “larger capacities in virtual worlds,” The Verge explains. Meta has not given up on the metaverse, and “plans on upgrading its Horizon Studio with an agentic AI assistant that helps ‘stitch’ together its existing AI tools that help people make virtual worlds.”
