73rd Engineering Emmy Honorees Include Dolby and Hastings

The Television Academy has announced the companies and individuals that will be honored at the 73rd Engineering Emmy Awards, among them Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings, recipient of the Charles F. Jenkins Lifetime Achievement Award, and Dolby Laboratories, honored with the Philo T. Farnsworth Corporate Achievement Award. The awards honor individuals, companies or organizations for developments in broadcast technology. The latest honorees — ranging from creators of high-end special effects tools to systems that help maintain distancing protocols — will be recognized at a live ceremony at the JW Marriott Los Angeles Hotel on October 21. Television Academy Live-Streams Engineering Emmy Awards

On October 29, the Television Academy celebrated the honorees of the 72nd Engineering Emmy Awards, live-streaming the ceremony from its website for the first time. The awards were announced on October 8, and the event was hosted by CBS “Criminal Minds” star Kirsten Vangsness for the fifth consecutive year. Interactive Media Emmys Redefined, May 1st Entry Deadline

The Emmy Award categories for Interactive Media have been completely redesigned for the 69th Emmy Award season. The Interactive Media Peer Group of the Television Academy announced four Category Awards and one new Juried Award. The four categories are Outstanding Interactive Program, Outstanding Original Interactive Program, Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media Within a Scripted Program, and Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media Within an Unscripted Program. The reimagined Juried Award for Innovation in Interactive Programming will recognize pioneering interactive work in emerging uses of interactive media in television. TV Academy to Distribute Chromecast Devices to Emmy Voters

With the aim of enhancing the viewing experience of this year’s Emmy-nominated content, the Television Academy inked a deal with Google to distribute Chromecast devices to all of the Academy’s eligible voting members. This new initiative also prompts a rule change, enabling voting members to vote for all major program categories as well as those professional categories pertinent to their expertise. The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards will air tonight on NBC, this year with a few social media twists. Actor Aaron Paul, nominated again for his role in “Breaking Bad,” is thanking his fans with another Hollywood scavenger hunt. He recently posted a photo on Instagram promising signed scripts, posters and more. Facebook is providing an oversized tablet designed to let celebs answer questions from fans during the festivities. And Google has posted TV filming locations that you can check out on Street View. ATAS Names Yahoo Official Digital Partner for Emmy Awards

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced that Yahoo! will serve as its official digital partner for streaming live from the red carpet and behind-the-scenes during the Primetime Emmy Awards. This marks the first digital partner for the Academy outside of the broadcast networks. When the Emmy’s air on CBS on September 22, Yahoo! will deliver live streaming action from the red carpet, head backstage during the program, and offer exclusive content following the broadcast.
