Nielsen Reports Major Jump in On-Demand Audio Streaming

According to Nielsen, on-demand audio streams — including music, podcasts and spoken word recordings — reached a new milestone for the U.S. market when the figure reached 7.5 billion during the week ending March 9. In its latest mid-year report, the measurement firm indicates that 184 billion on-demand audio streams this year mark a significant 62.4 percent increase over the same period last year. In addition, there has been more than 284 billion on-demand audio and video streams combined this year, a 36.4 percent jump over the same period in 2016. The deep connection between streaming music services and ticket sales is becoming increasingly clear. YouTube Turns to Big Data for Selecting Music Awards Winners

YouTube has announced the 50 winners of its 2015 YouTube Music Awards, which were selected this time around by data analysis of growth in views, subscribers and engagement during the last six months on the Google-owned video site. The honorees include mainstream acts such as Ariana Grande, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift — in addition to YouTube stars including Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix. Study Shows Prankverts Currently Most-Shared Movie Content

According to a new study, prank-based viral videos have recently become the most-shared forms of movie content. In the study, social video advertising platform Unruly analyzed the most-shared movie promos from September 2013 to September 2014. In that time, the six major movie studios generated 3.4 billion views of promotional content. Through the study, Unruly determined that the studios that went beyond the simple trailer were more successful in promoting movies.
