NBCU Enhances Streaming Features for Peacock NBA Debut

Peacock wants to be the place to watch basketball this fall when the NBA makes its debut on the streamer with the 2025-2026 season. As the result of an integration between the platform and the NBC Sports production team, Peacock will give basketball fans special functions that make watching NBA games more convenient in their living rooms or on their phones. Multiview and key plays, two popular YouTube features, are coming to the NBA on Peacock. The idea is to provide viewers with an immersive NBA experience. NBCUniversal shared the news at the NBC Upfront presentation at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

“When fans open the Peacock app during the NBA season, its Instant Access feature will show live game footage on the home screen, including current in-game stats for players,” reports CNET, adding that “you’ll see which teams are facing off, and you can press play to jump right into the live stream.”

Mobile viewers can scroll down to a row featuring highlights for active matchups and past games. During live games, there will be an option to toggle between highlights and the real-time action. “Stream all the highlights in a vertical feed as if you’re in your favorite social media app,” CNET writes. Those tuning in via the TV app can click “key plays” to check out any missed highlights before proceeding to the live feed.

“Live in Browse is essentially a preview feature,” explains Tom’s Guide. “When you boot up the Peacock app, this feature makes it so the marquee NBA game on the home page will play live as you browse,” even offering “real-time stats and insights to allow you to know exactly what’s going on in the game.”

A “performance view” option provides a combination of live footage and “video game-like animations showing flaming basketballs on their way to the hoop and name labels for players,” CNET says, noting the dramatization “shows which players are all-stars and which ‘have a hot hand.’” A chart appearing under the live feed is constantly updated to show each player’s location on the court.

Peacock ScoreCard is “a first-of-its-kind, real-time streaming experience that is like ‘bingo meets fantasy sports’ and will be available on TV and mobile,” NBC Sports notes in an announcement. “Fans will have the option to scroll to choose a game card based on a team or theme, and then earn points depending on what happens during the game.”

“Personalized Peacock ScoreCard alerts” will update fans throughout the game as to how they’re doing and how rate against other viewers. “Top-ranked fans might even see their username on-air as part of a season leaderboard,” NBC teases.
