BitTorrent Partners with Rapid Eye Studios for Original Video

BitTorrent recently partnered with Rapid Eye Studios to produce original video content. BitTorrent, the popular platform for peer-to-peer sharing of movies, music, and other media content, plans to create new original content as well as distribute it through the company’s publishing gateway, BitTorrent Bundle. The company’s first original, “Children of the Machine,” is slated for release this year as a free version that includes ads or a premium, ad-free version priced at $9.95.

BitTorrent Originals will primarily target a 14-25 year old demographic, one that is consistent with the 170 million active monthly users the website attracts.

According to Wired, “BitTorrent Bundle will have the exclusive on these series… After about 30 to 60 days, creators will be free to distribute their series any other way they like.” As previously reported, Bundle is a distribution platform that BitTorrent has developed to allow creators to creatively and directly push their content to consumers.

The BitTorrent Bundle allows “creators [to] sell content using a variety of different payment methods, including partial payments, to ‘unlock’ certain parts of content and advertising,” TechCrunch explains.

While the financial details of the partnership with Rapid Eye Studios remain undisclosed, Wired confirms that 90 percent of ad generated and paid download profits will go directly to the content creators.

With a focus on original content, BitTorrent CEO Eric Klinker believes the company is another step closer to its goal of “creating a sustainable digital future for creators of all kinds,” Wired reports.
