TikTok Dives into Live Music with Its First Concert Experience

After launching a subscription-only music streaming service in territories around the world this past summer, TikTok is now moving into concerts and e-ticketing. The ByteDance company’s first live global music event will be “TikTok In The Mix,” featuring Cardi B, Niall Horan, Anitta and Charlie Puth, along with surprise guests and new artists from the TikTok Elevate program. Taking place December 10 at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona, the show will integrate elements of the For You feed, with “a range of activities inspired by the TikTok community’s favorite trends.”

Pre-sale tickets have been available exclusively through TikTok, while general ticket sales begin on November 2. The popular social platform partnered with “Tickets.com to help with ticket sales for its event,” according to TechCrunch, which says tickets will be available through TikTokInTheMix.com at prices ranging from $25 to $60.

TikTok’s ticketing venture debuts a year after Spotify launched its own ticket sales web portal and months after TikTok’s paid music streaming service rolled out to challenge Spotify, as well as Apple and Amazon.

“The announcement of the event comes on the heels of the public launch of TikTok Music in Australia, Singapore and Mexico following months of speculation about TikTok’s plans to launch a standalone music streaming app,” reports Music Business Worldwide.

“If TikTok’s ‘In The Mix’ event succeeds with high ticket sales, it begs the question as to whether the company will continue hosting its own events and if it might create a dedicated in-app tickets page, to better compete with Spotify and other music event discovery services,” TechCrunch writes, noting that “Apple-owned Shazam also announced today a way to browse and discover concerts in their own area.”

Headliner Cardi B has more than 23.6 million followers on TikTok, while Anitta “boasts more than 22.7 million followers on TikTok, driving over 21.3 billion views,” writes MBW, noting “she often showcases her dance routines and provides fans a behind-the-scenes look at her performances on the platform.”

Calling TikTok “the home of music discovery,” the company news release added that “every day, our community of over one billion people worldwide connect with their favorite artists and creators.”
