YouTube is offering amnesty of sorts, providing those who were kicked off the platform for policy violations a “second chance.” Last week, the Google-owned streamer agreed to pay a $24.5 million settlement to President Donald Trump, who sued over suspension of his YouTube account following the January 2021 U.S. Capitol riots. “We know that our long-held approach of enforcing lifetime terminations can be difficult for creators,” YouTube explained in a blog post highlighting more than $100 billion paid out to creators, artists and media companies through the YouTube Partner Program over the past four years. NBCUniversal reports that its first NBC News daily show for Snapchat already has more than 29 million unique viewers after one month on air. “Stay Tuned,” which broadcasts twice daily, launched July 18. While the figure tops viewership for some of NBC News’ top-rated television offerings, a direct comparison is not necessarily realistic since a Snapchat view starts as soon as a video is opened — and content created for mobile users is distilled into smaller need-to-know bits as compared to traditional TV news. MGM Television became the first major studio to ink a deal with Snap Inc. to create original short-form programming for its Discover platform; there were no details on the exact nature of the upcoming shows or when they would premiere. The deal marks the latest in Snap’s many media partnerships, which include ABC, NBC, ESPN, the NFL, Turner, the BBC, Vice Media, A+E Networks and Discovery Communications.
