British phone maker Nothing Technology Limited has announced the Phone (3), with a divergent look and major camera upgrades that cater to its young fanbase. At a launch event in London, Nothing CEO Carl Pei said his company, which also makes headphones and earbuds, will go “all-in” marketing its new Android flagship smartphone against premium offerings from Samsung and others. It starts at $800, 25 percent more than the Phone (2), but Pei says there are plenty of upgrades — including four 50MP cameras and a circular mini-LED screen on the back of the device. Two years after debuting a self-branded TV line, and one year following the rollout of its premium Pro series, Roku is unveiling a new line the spans from budget to higher-end models. The 2025 lineup — featuring Roku Select, Roku Plus and Roku Pro Series — are available with prices starting at just $130 for the entry-level Select series, while a 75-inch Pro Series mini-LED will run about $1,700. The lineup promises “seamless setup,” a built-in remote finder, updated Smart Picture Max — “Roku’s most advanced video ever,” and “performance upgrades and intelligent features” that automate “the best picture and sound.” Roku is also offering two new streaming sticks and testing a refreshed home screen. Panasonic has raised the curtain on its full 2025 TV lineup, which includes several OLEDs and some LED models, a mini-LED TV among them. OLEDs include the flagship Panasonic Z95B with new ThermalFlow system. Gaining attention as a contender for “TV of the year,” the model makes its debut in the 77-inch category and also comes in 55- and 65-inch versions. Other OLEDs include the midrange Panasonic Z90B and entry-level Panasonic Z80B. The LED roster features the Panasonic W95B, the premium-packed Panasonic W85B, a QLED model dubbed W80A, and at entry-level the Panasonic W61A 4K. Roku unveiled two new streaming sticks, an 85-inch Select Series TV, and a Pro Series model arriving with factory calibration. New discovery features include a “Coming Soon to Theaters” row on its user interface. The San Jose-based hardware firm also debuted two battery-powered security cameras and announced that it is expanding its TV line to include projectors. The entry level Roku Streaming Stick is compatible with any HD smart TV and comes with a voice-activated remote that provides backdrops and access to free content. Panasonic reinforced its 2024 reentry into the U.S. television market, introducing three new models including the flagship Z95B OLED at CES 2025. Some say the company’s new top-of-the-line torch bearer — with spatial audio and sizes up to 77 inches — is competitive with premium models from top manufacturers such as Sony, Samsung and LG. The Z95B features a “next-generation” OLED panel “with Primary RGB Tandem technology, which employs a four-layer emission structure that refines the wavelength of light and increases color purity, thus enhancing light efficiency by 40 percent,” according to Panasonic. Now the company is attempting to silence the critics with The Frame Pro, a mini-LED TV that promises brighter colors, sharper contrasts and improved local dimming for deeper blacks. Hisense is going high-end at CES 2025, with two XXL-size TVs that leverage new display technology. For 2025 the company has queued up a 136-inch micro-LED TV and a 116-inch mini-LED TV that uses RGB backlight for improved color. The Chinese company’s 2025 TVs all feature a new Hisense Hi-View AI Engine X processor that the company says is faster than last year’s and uses artificial intelligence to optimize the picture and sound, as well as energy consumption. TCL’s new QM6K series of mini-LED TVs is turning heads at CES 2025 for its combination of high-end features, low price, and fact that it is available now, starting at $750 for the 50-inch model, going up to 98-inches for $3,500. Featuring a bezel-free design, the TV is powered by the company’s proprietary AiPQ Pro Processor, a Super High Energy mini-LED chip that TCL is using on all its 2025 mini-LED TVs. The company says the AiPQ Pro produces 53 percent more brightness and has 500 local dimming zones controlled by TCL Precise Dimming, debuting on the QM6K series. New iPad Pros with OLED displays and the thinnest design ever, powered by Apple’s new M4 chip topped the news out of Cupertino’s “Let Loose” launch event, where redesigned iPad Airs were unveiled in 11‑inch and 13‑inch M2 configurations. The switch to OLED is a major change for Apple, which used mini-LED on the most recent models. And it’s not just garden variety OLED, but tandem OLED, combining two OLED displays for very high contrast with deep blacks and 1,600 nit peak brightness. Virtual reality firm Pimax has unveiled two new headsets. The Crystal Super is a high-resolution performance model which starts at $1,800, while the Crystal Light will carry a base list of $700. The Crystal Super packs 29.5 million pixels and allows users to swap between QLED and micro-OLED panels, which Pimxax claims is a first. The Crystal Light offers the same 16.6 million pixels as its Crystal predecessor, but at a more affordable price. At its annual Frontier virtual event, Pimax also shared the specs for its 60G Airlink module, designed for high-fidelity wireless PCVR using WiGig technology. Sony’s new line of Bravia televisions focuses on MiniLED display tech with the high-end Bravia 9. There is also the OLED-based Bravia 8, and the company is keeping 2023’s A95L QD-OLED in the mix. But the spotlight is in the LED backlighting system that Sony has spent several years refining, XR Backlight Master Drive, which can assert precise control over each pixel. Sony says the technology is comparable to the underpinnings of its professional mastering monitors. The XR Backlight Master Drive system allocates LED resources using purpose-built silicon created by Sony for its MiniLED TVs. TCL’s new 115-inch mini-LED television is drawing crowds at CES 2024, where it’s garnering notice for its 20,000 local dimming zones and 5,000 nits peak brightness. The IMAX Enhanced TV has a 120Hz QLED display panel with anti-glare coating. The model, TCL QM891G, also features built-in 6.2.2-channel Dolby Atmos speakers and an ATSC 3.0 tuner for NextGen TV broadcasts. TCL says its new smart TV is 2.5 times brighter than any currently available television. The company also debuted two other mini-LED TVs (at 75-98 inches) and a pair of new QLEDs (43-98 inches). Roku is following up the budget-priced, self-branded TV sets it introduced in January last year at CES with the more ambitious Roku Pro Series TV lineup debuting at next week’s CES 2024 and shipping later this spring. The 4K QLED Pro TVs will come in 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch sizes retailing for under $1,500. Included are features like Mini LED local dimming for heightened contrast and deeper blacks. The Pro TVs also tap artificial intelligence for a Smart Picture feature that automatically adjusts picture and audio. The feature is scheduled to roll out to all Roku TVs this year. LG Electronics will showcase its latest television technologies at CES in Las Vegas next week, including its 2024 lineup of QNED and QNED Mini LED TVs with models up to 98 inches, and the company’s top-line M4 and G4 OLED TVs (more on those sets in tomorrow’s ETCentric). LG says the advanced graphics capabilities of faster AI processing will provide viewers with a brighter picture, smoother motion and superior, vibrant colors. At CES 2023, Asus refreshed this year’s models of its popular ROG Zephyrus gaming laptops. The new flagship M16 comes tricked out with 13th Gen Intel i9 and Nvidia RTX 4090 graphics. The RTX 4080 variant starts at $3,900. Also arriving in the first quarter of 2023 are updates on the G14 and ROG Zephyrus Duo 16, with options including AMD Ryzen 9 Zen 4 or 13th Gen Intel processors and Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 Series GPUs. On the display front Asus offers the ROG Nebula, powered by mini-LED powered Nebula HDRs. Next-gen cooling rounds out the package.
