HUSSLUP Aims to Become Entertainment Industry’s LinkedIn

Hollywood talent discovery platform HUSSLUP debuted its desktop app this week, staking its claim as the LinkedIn of the entertainment community. With backing from Comcast NBCUniversal’s LIFT Labs accelerator and various venture funds, the job search and networking hub aims to help young professionals who want to break into the world of production for film, television and games. The company launched as a mobile app in December, when it announced a $2.5 million seed round and 4,000 job-seeking members. AR/VR Meta Quest Pro Targets Productivity Sector for $1,500

Meta Platforms unveiled its anticipated mixed reality headset yesterday at Meta Connect. The $1,500 Quest Pro, which CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced as “the first in our new line of advanced headsets,” becomes the first full-color AR/VR device to hit the U.S. market on October 25. Although Meta is positioning the Quest Pro as a productivity device, the thrust was that app makers will be encouraged to develop for it. Meta also announced that NBCUniversal content and Microsoft Office, Windows, Teams and Xbox Cloud Gaming are coming to Meta Quest headsets. Studios, Filmmakers Create Virtual Movie Events via Twitter

As movie theaters remain shuttered during the coronavirus pandemic, some studios are coming up with new and creative ways to enjoy the virtual cinema experience. Twitter is now offering an unofficial, informal screening series of Twitter Watch Parties that evoke the same exciting atmosphere of previous Live Watch tweeting events that grew organically out of “Game of Thrones” or “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Film-reviewing app and social network Letterboxd did a Watch Party with “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” and pop culture platform Nerdist gathered users for a “watchalong” of the 1985 comedy “Clue.” Continue reading Studios, Filmmakers Create Virtual Movie Events via Twitter
