BuzzFeed-Produced Videos to Promote VH1 Television Shows

Cable channel VH1 and Internet media company BuzzFeed have joined forces to expand their audiences. BuzzFeed will produce videos to drive viewers to watch “Couples Therapy with Dr. Jenn” on VH1’s television channel. Segments will air on television in addition to VH1’s digital platforms and the BuzzFeed website. This is the latest deal in BuzzFeed’s Social Tune-In Program and part of its larger video expansion efforts. The company has also inked similar deals with Bravo and IFC.

The BuzzFeed-produced segments began airing Monday, ahead of the Wednesday premiere of “Couples Therapy with Dr. Jenn.” The celebrity couples on the show this season include of Juan Pablo Galavis and Nikki Ferrell from “The Bachelor” and Deena Cortese and Chris Buckner from “Jersey Shore.”

Caralene Robinson, SVP of VH1’s creative group and consumer marketing told Variety, “Our fans have a voracious appetite for VH1 content across all screens. BuzzFeed is the perfect partner to expand our reach to a wider audience and to engage even deeper with the VH1 brand across the social Web.”

With $50 million in funding from VC Andreesen Horowitz, BuzzFeed is looking to expand its operations, particularly in video. The company has started a new division, BuzzFeed Motion Pictures, to produce animated GIFs, videos, and eventually full-length movies. Currently, BuzzFeed is valued at $850 million.
