Netflix Expanding into Live TV in France with TF1 Group Deal

Netflix has struck a first-of-its-kind deal to carry live TV in France. Beginning in the summer of 2026, subscribers in France can view TF1 Group live channels as well as on-demand content from TF1+ on Netflix as part of their existing subscriptions. TF1 and Netflix have long worked together on co-productions including “Les Combattantes” and “L’Agence.” “This new kind of partnership will provide audiences in France with exciting new ways to enjoy TF1 programming and offer Netflix members in France even more variety and choice,” Netflix said. The agreement will see Netflix carrying all five of TF1’s broadcast channels in addition to some 30,000 hours of on-demand content.

Variety called it a “landmark deal,” touting “the ability to watch shows broadcast on TF1 such as ‘Broceliande’ and ‘The Voice’ without ever having to leave the service.”

Although terms were not disclosed, “the TF1 deal could prove a litmus test ahead of similar arrangements globally as Netflix strengthens its power over traditional broadcasters and looks to become a one-stop-shop for TV audiences,” Variety suggests.

“This is a first-of-its-kind partnership that plays to our strengths of giving audiences the best entertainment alongside the best discovery experience,” Netflix co-CEO Greg Peters said in an announcement. “By teaming up with France’s leading broadcaster we will provide French consumers with even more reasons to come to Netflix every day and to stay with us for all their entertainment.”

Netflix subscribers in France will gain access to “TF1’s broad array of programming,” which includes live sporting events and soap operas as well as traditional scripted shows and game shows, The New York Times points out.

While TF1 reaches 58 million broadcast viewers and has 35 million streaming customers on TF1+, the company sees the deal with Netflix “as a way to attract more viewers and increase its advertising revenue,” writes NYT.

“As viewing habits shift toward on-demand consumption and audience fragmentation increases, this unprecedented alliance will enable our premium content to reach unparalleled audiences and unlock new reach for advertisers within an ecosystem that perfectly complements our TF1+ platform,” TF1 Group CEO Rodolphe Belmer said in the announcement.

TechRadar cited an announcement by Nielsen that “for the first time in history, streaming services had a bigger audience than broadcast and cable channels combined,” calling the Netflix-TF1 deal “a poetic twist of timing.”
