Meta Platforms Acquires Limitless, a Startup in AI Wearables
December 9, 2025
Meta Platforms has acquired AI wearables firm Limitless, a five-year-old startup based in Denver. Limitless’ key product is an AI-powered pendant that records audio and generates summaries. “We’re excited that Limitless will be joining Meta to help accelerate our work to build AI-enabled wearables,” Meta said via a statement. Meta has had success in the wearables space with its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which feature a Meta AI digital assistant. Meta’s further push into AI devices that consumers can use casually in everyday situations comes as the company reportedly considers downsizing its metaverse investments.
TechCrunch reports that Limitless, formerly known as Rewind, “says it will no longer sell its hardware devices and will maintain support for its existing customers for a year” as a result of the acquisition.

The Limitless pendant (pictured above), which can be worn as a necklace or clip-on, has been selling for $99 since 2024, writes TechCrunch, explaining Limitless is changing its pricing and winding down its “non-pendant software ‘Rewind,’ which recorded users’ desktop activity and turned it into a searchable record.”
“The world of AI wearables has been slowly growing this year, but no company has landed a standout product,” notes CNBC, citing other companies competing with products similar to what Limitless offers.
“Friend offers a pendant-style device, Plaud comes in a small card shape or pill that can be clipped on or worn around your neck or on your wrist, and Bee, which is worn on a wristband and was scooped up by Amazon in July,” CNBC reports.
In a blog post about joining Meta, Limitless CEO Dan Siroker writes the company is “no longer working on a weird fringe idea.”
Siroker emphasizes that Meta’s “vision to bring personal superintelligence to everyone” hinges largely on AI-enabled wearables. “We share this vision and we’ll be joining Meta to help bring our shared vision to life,” Siroker said.
The New York Times writes that “Meta is considering making cuts to a division in its Reality Labs unit,” which in addition to developing VR headsets and VR-based social networking also develops smart glasses and other wearables. An elimination of “10 to 30 percent of employees in the Metaverse unit could be coming as soon as January, NYT says, contextualizing that the plans are still in flux.
