EA and Stability AI Partner to Develop Models, Creative Tools

Electronic Arts has partnered with Stability AI to co-develop new models, tools, and workflows that empower game designers, artists and developers. The partnership comes on the heels of the publicly traded EA agreeing to go private in a deal valued at $55 billion, including debt, led by Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners, equity firm Silver Lake and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF). The partners aim to “reimagine how content is built,” according to EA. The 40-plus years firm has of late been using machine learning and artificial intelligence to power real-time animation and physics simulation.

“With humans at the center of storytelling, we’re evolving how we work so that AI becomes a trusted ally: supporting faster iteration, expanding creative possibilities, accelerating workflows, and allowing more time to focus on what matters most — building world-class games and experiences that entertain massive online communities,” EA explains in a news post.

The 7-year-old Stability says in its own announcement that the alliance will allow the partners “to reimagine how games are made,” noting that “this kind of progress is only possible through deep partnership, where scientists and creators work side by side.”

Variety points out that the London-based AI startup’s board of directors includes filmmaker James Cameron, who developed a virtual camera system for “Avatar” that was inspired in part by game engine technology.

“The partnership will impact how developers create assets, from textures to entire 3D environments, using generative models trained specifically for game design,” reports Digital Trends, noting that the first initiative between the new partners will “focus on generating Physically Based Rendering (PBR) materials: super-detailed textures that make in-game surfaces look realistic under different lighting conditions.”

“I use the term smarter paintbrushes,” Variety quotes EA Sports Head of Technical Art Steve Kestell saying to characterize his thoughts on AI’s contribution. “We are giving our creatives the tools to express what they want,” tools that will take ideas from thoughts to experiences.

EA and Stability AI have plans to use generative AI to create 3D previsualization systems that can produce environments “from a simple text prompt,” Digital Trends adds.

EA’s deal to go private, announced last month, is expected to close sometime after April 2026.
