YouTube Music Touts 10 Years with Live, Interactive Features
August 27, 2025
After 10 years of YouTube Music, global fans have created over 4 billion music playlists — including 1.8 billion public lists — and now the Google-owned platform is celebrating its decade landmark by adding new features to connect music fans. Coming soon are playlist comments that will appear directly on album and song lists “to keep the conversation going around the music you love.” Also new to the menu, “taste match” playlists, which update each day based on the listening habits of those who join. Additionally, YouTube has entered into an exclusive arrangement with Bandsintown to help promote live performances and much more.
“Artist pages, Shorts, and videos will soon surface nearby tour dates, and you’ll even get notifications when new shows, merch, or releases drop,” reports Android Authority.
And for superfans, YouTube has launched new badges “including ‘First to Watch,’ ‘Top Listener,’ and more, as a means to encourage, and even gamify, artist engagement,” writes Social Media Today.
“Fans will be able to earn badges based on their engagement history, in order to show just how big a fan they are,” based on listening and viewing habits of particular artists — something that “will no doubt prove popular, and will get more users engaging with their favorite bands and musicians more often in the app,” Social Media Today explains.
Which plays into another new feature: artists and bands “can work toward music video watch milestones, like 100,000 views, 1 million, or even 1 billion views,” notes TechCrunch.
“Video milestone alerts” will issue “when an official music video is about to hit big numbers,” so fans can help “push it over the line,” adds Android Authority.
YouTube Music’s catalog now houses “over 300 million tracks, including official studio recordings, remixes, live performances, and covers,” according to a blog post. The platform wants to connect those holdings with IRL performances, and to do that has made Bandsintown the exclusive provider of concert listings for YouTube and YouTube Music.
Bandsintown listings will now be discoverable from YouTube’s music videos and Shorts, Official Artist Channels, and soon directly from the YouTube homepage, according to a press release.
The integration “also unlocks a new push notification feature, alerting users to nearby concerts and upcoming shows, bringing the live music discovery experience directly to fans,” the announcement continues, adding that later this year, YouTube Music will be showcasing live events on home and artist pages.
