Woodpecker: Chinese Researchers Combat AI Hallucinations

The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and Tencent YouTu Lab have released a research paper on a new framework called Woodpecker, designed to correct hallucinations in multimodal large language AI models. “Hallucination is a big shadow hanging over the rapidly evolving MLLMs,” writes the group, describing the phenomenon as when MLLMs “output descriptions that are inconsistent with the input image.” Solutions to date focus mainly on “instruction-tuning,” a form of retraining that is data and computation intensive. Woodpecker takes a training-free approach that purports to correct hallucinations from the basis of the generated text. Continue reading Woodpecker: Chinese Researchers Combat AI Hallucinations

Meta Developing a Neural Network to Turbocharge Wikipedia

Meta AI, the artificial intelligence unit of Meta Platforms has developed what it believes is a machine learning model that can simultaneously scan hundreds of thousands of Wikipedia citations to check their accuracy. While the Wikimedia Foundation, which runs Wikipedia, already uses bots, Meta’s proposal would be more extensive than anything currently deployed. Trained using a dataset of 4 million Wikipedia citations, the new Meta AI tool analyzes the linked references, verifying corroboration. With more than 17,000 new Wikipedia articles added each month, this is no small feat. Continue reading Meta Developing a Neural Network to Turbocharge Wikipedia

Technicolor Certified Program Ensures Hues Across Devices

Technicolor, working with Portrait Displays, has developed a new standard for guaranteeing the hue quality across computer and mobile device panels. The Technicolor Color Certified Program will provide displays that meet the standard with a seal of approval. “For the end user, the result should be consistent tones across all certified devices either automatically or when the Technicolor color setting is enabled for specific programs or apps,” explains Engadget.
