Spotify Updates Live Events Feed, Lets Fans Follow Venues

Spotify has added a feature that lets users follow their favorite venues to stay current on upcoming performances. In March the music streamer created a Concerts Near You playlist option, updated weekly, that helps fans discover when their favorite artists are touring nearby. Now, Spotify says its redesigned Live Events feed, updated daily, is available to both Free and Premium subscribers directly in-app, letting users view venue and scheduled concert details right from their libraries. Spotify is also recommending other smaller venues fans may enjoy based on their tastes. “Great live music isn’t just about the artist you see — it’s also about where you see them,” Spotify believes.

Since Concerts Near You launched, more than 3 million people have used it to discover nearby events, according to Spotify’s newsroom post.

“The tailored suggestions will help users discover smaller or lesser-known venues, not just major arenas,” writes Digital Trends, noting that the Live Events feed is now refreshing daily instead of weekly, offering the latest information on geographically friendly concerts.

Spotify’s partnership with Live Nation and Ticketmaster helps close the loop in terms of helping people make arrangements to see shows, though many of the smaller venues whose visibility Spotify is seeking to boost with the new feature do not rely on those ticketing giants.

“Once listeners find a concert they’re interested in, they can just tap through to the event’s official ticketing partner to complete their purchase,” Spotify clarifies, explaining that “they’ll receive a confirmation with all the event details and can return to Spotify anytime to revisit the event page or explore more concerts.”

With more than 20,000 venues listed worldwide, from iconic arenas to indie clubs, Spotify is casting a wide net. “Whether it’s catching a set at Brooklyn Paramount in New York, an unforgettable night at Bataclan in Paris, or a live performance at Oxford Art Factory in Sydney, your next great concert experience is just a tap away — right inside Spotify,” the company informs.

Spotify has also given its in-app Live Events feed a revamp to help boost its use. “The feature has been given a design upgrade, and you can now follow your favorite venues and discover new live music spots you may have missed before, which will all be saved to your Library for easy access,” says TechRadar, noting that “the new feed has already started rolling out to users.”
