Adobe Firefly Adds Third-Party Models to Generative AI Suite

To coincide with Adobe MAX 2025 in Los Angeles, Adobe has released a new version of its generative AI tool Firefly, calling it “your all-in-one creative AI studio.” Firefly now offers under one subscription a collection of models that include not only Firefly Image Model 5 (in public beta) but those from partners including Google, OpenAI, Luma AI, ElevenLabs, Topaz Labs, and more. From concept to final product, Firefly is attempting to support every phase of the workflow with AI to generate music, narration and video clips, while supporting areas such as ideation and editing, Adobe says.

“Explore looks for your project in Firefly Boards, our collaborative brainstorming tool,” or “use Firefly Image Model 5 to create your starting images,” which can then be refined using generative video model’s like Google’s Veo 3.1 or Luma AI’s Ray 3 to animate them, Adobe suggests in a blog post.

You can then “edit everything together in the new timeline-based video editor (private beta) in Adobe Firefly, then use Generate Soundtrack (public beta) to create a custom, fully-licensed music track,” with “no more switching between a dozen sites on a dozen tabs just to get your work done,” the blog post continues.

“Many creators may find it distasteful to lean on AI for nearly every aspect of production, but Adobe calls it ‘a tool for, not a replacement of, human creativity,’” Engadget reports, explaining that Firefly has until now been more of a content generator, but now incorporates features like editing.

The private beta Firefly video editor is “a web-based multitrack timeline editor, not unlike Adobe Premiere Pro,” Engadget continues, noting that the tool also includes style “presets like claymation, anime and 2D,” and lets you combine “captured media.”

The results can be edited with “frame-by-frame precision” or by using a transcript, Adobe adds.

Beyond that, “Firefly eliminates the need for humans to make voiceovers and music, too,” Engadget writes, explaining that the new Generate Soundtrack is a music generator that lets you choose a style or will create one “to match any clip you upload,” syncing it to the footage.

Generate Speech “does the same thing for voiceovers,” offering “a choice between Firefly’s Speech Model or one from ElevenLabs, Engadget explains. Enhance Speech removes background noise.

Adobe also has “new AI assistants for Express and Photoshop,” reports TechCrunch, noting that while “most companies like to put AI assistants into a sidebar, Adobe Express “lets you use text prompts to create new images and designs” then “switch on the assistant mode to use AI prompts and then switch back to use editing tools.”
