Amazon Prime Introduces GenAI ‘Video Recaps’ for TV Series
November 24, 2025
Amazon Prime is providing viewers with Video Recaps, AI-powered highlight rewinds to bring them quickly up to date on seasonal episodes they may have missed for their favorite shows. Amazon is touting the new feature as a “first-of-its-kind application of generative AI,” thought it does follow the X-Ray Recaps — spoiler free text summaries Amazon AI began providing last year. Prime Video Recaps are now available in beta for select English-language Prime Original series in the U.S. It is likely Amazon will eventually extend the Recaps to premium licensed shows, too, if it can work out rights issues.
Amazon’s explanation of how these recaps works makes clear it involves alteration of the underlying material, at least with regard to editing, and other creative choices. It also requires model ingestion of a season’s worth of content, something third parties would object to. Possibly licensees will begin supplying their own generative recaps.
For now, Amazon is providing them for Prime Original series including “Fallout,” Upload,” “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” “Bosch” and “The Rig.”

Amazon explains in an announcement that the Video Recaps rely on generative AI to analyze “a season’s key plot points and character arcs to deeply understand the most pivotal moments” in order to serve them to viewers as they prepare for the next season.
“Then, the AI finds the most compelling video clips and pairs them with audio effects, dialogue snippets, and music,” Amazon explains, adding that “these are all stitched together with an overarching AI-generated voiceover narration to deliver a theatrical-quality visual recap.”
TechCrunch concedes that consumers are becoming accustomed to “text-based AI summaries, since they likely see them when their phone summarizes texts,” or atop Google Search results, but opines that “video summaries veer into newer territory, which may appear more obtrusive.”
“While recaps are nothing new,” the Prime Video Recaps in addition to being AI-compiled “will be available as standalone elements alongside other show materials” on the detail page, reports Deadline.
Customers can access Video Recaps on their TVs, “with additional devices supporting the feature in the coming months,” Amazon says. For the beta rollout, Amazon is limiting the feature to “living-room devices — think a Fire TV or a streaming player hooked up to a TV,” writes TechRadar, noting that each Video Recap will run approximately three minutes.
As with the X-Ray Recaps Amazon launched in November 2024, “Amazon said that its AI model had guardrails in place to make sure that these recaps don’t inadvertently share spoilers,” according to TechCrunch.
