Squarespace Partners with Perplexity, Debuts Chat Site Builder

Squarespace, the platform launched in 2003 for website development and operation, is getting a refresh aimed at helping entrepreneurs and creative professionals incorporate more personalization and AI features. The ability to build websites via chat is coming soon. AI Optimization (AIO) for search is another focus. The company has partnered with AI answer engine Perplexity to serve as the website building and hosting partner for Perplexity’s new browser, Comet. Squarespace has also launched Finish Layer, a design suite with capabilities for animation, transforms, and advanced editing to help websites add “immersive experiences with professional-grade customization.”

“Design remains a key differentiator and trust signal for modern businesses, and Finish Layer helps them break through the noise,” Squarespace explains in a news release about the improvements.

Refresh 2025 — Squarespace’s annual showcase of new features — has its own website with demos and a highlights video. Among the new and upcoming features:

  • Blueprint AI expansion: More ways to use Squarespace’s AI-powered design partner, including a set of designer-made templates with embedded, curated content that instantly adapts to one’s industry and intent. Soon, users can get started via chat by describing their vision to generate tailored imagery, copy, and design recommendations.
  • Squarespace GPT: Accessible from OpenAI’s ChatGPT Store, this guided experience offers another pathway to start building a more personalized website with Blueprint AI and continue designing in the Squarespace platform.
  • AI-Powered Image and Video Backgrounds: New libraries of premium-quality, AI-generated website background assets that support one’s creative vision.
  • Finish Layer: Intuitive, designer-level editing and styling controls such as interactive block animations to bring content to life, customizable block transforms for added visual depth, and new editing capabilities that simplify workflows. Users can also optimize for views across devices and import external fonts for brand consistency.

TechRadar counts 63 new tools and features that “bring Squarespace in line with leading competitors such as Wix,” including some that are unique and “set it apart from the crowd.”

The ability to add AI-generated images to websites and a design reuse feature offered to Squarespace Circle members that lets them “drastically speed up the design process” are among the highlights referenced by TechRadar.

Last month, Squarespace for Pros added features including built-in scheduling, payments, invoicing.

Circle, the partner program for professionals, has a new dashboard that “brings everything into one place — from membership status, points, and referral payments to product updates, community conversations, and curated insights,” the company says.
