Coming soon, “Boards Made for You” are personalized boards assembled through a combination of AI suggestions and editorial input. OpenAI Enters Browser Market with Launch of ChatGPT Atlas

OpenAI has launched Atlas, a free web browser that uses ChatGPT as its search engine and integrates with the company’s other products. Initially released for Apple’s macOS, OpenAI says support for Windows, Android and iOS is coming soon. News that OpenAI was developing the product surfaced in April as part of the Google antitrust trial, where OpenAI executive Nick Turley testified the company was interested in buying Chrome. Now the ChatGPT Atlas browser is available for download, challenging Chrome and others. Walmart Making Products Available for Purchase via ChatGPT

Walmart has partnered with OpenAI to make its products, as well as those from its Sam’s Club wholesale warehouse, available for purchase within ChatGPT. The AI-first shopping experience is designed to shift the purchasing interface “from reactive to proactive as it learns, plans and predicts, helping customers anticipate their needs,” according to Walmart. The transition is expected to take place over the next few months, allowing customers to purchase nearly every product on the Walmart and Sam’s Club websites through the chatbot, except for fresh food. Squarespace Partners with Perplexity, Debuts Chat Site Builder

Squarespace, the platform launched in 2003 for website development and operation, is getting a refresh aimed at helping entrepreneurs and creative professionals incorporate more personalization and AI features. Amazon is bringing new levels of immersion and interactivity to the NBA on Prime, with features including opt-in personalized bet tracking with FanDuel, customizable Multiview, and AI-powered Key Moments and Rapid Recap. Tipping off on its 11-year agreement with the NBA on October 24, viewers will experience “personalization, engagement and broadcast quality with a comprehensive suite of interactive features and AI-powered enhancements,” according to Amazon. The NBA is also teaming with AWS and harnessing AI to bring live stats and in-depth analytics to fans during games. OpenAI Rolls Out New Parental Controls to Help Protect Kids

OpenAI has added parental controls for ChatGPT’s Web interface, with mobile controls coming soon. The controls give parents the ability to reduce or remove certain content and dial down personalization by turning off ChatGPT’s transcript memories. At the same time, OpenAI has added the ability to restrict image generation with the launch of Sora parental controls for ChatGPT-connected teen accounts. There are also controls for sending and receiving direct messages through the app. OpenAI says the changes aim “to give families tools to support their teens’ use of AI.” To activate control access, parents must have their own accounts and teens will need to opt in. Google Optimizes Play Store for Games, Adds Personalization

Google is giving the Play Store an AI makeover with a new strategy behind Play Games and a new You tab for personalized content. A new Guided Search feature will help users find apps and games by typing in keywords or a generalized description rather than the app’s name. The hope is that artificial intelligence can turn the mobile marketplace into more of a destination rather than just a place to download apps. More than 4 billion people use Google Play, and the company would like to have them spend more time there. Play’s integrated gaming platform and You tab will begin rolling out this week, starting with select Play Points markets, and will be adding additional countries on October 1. eBay Set to Purchase Norway’s Social Shopping Platform Tise

EBay has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Norway-based consumer-to-consumer (C2C) social marketplace Tise, which specializes in secondhand fashion and home furnishing goods and is popular with Gen Z and Millennial shoppers. Founded in 2014, Tise currently has about 2.5 million registered users in the Nordic region and has raised $45 million over three funding rounds. EBay says Tise’s community engagement features, including the ability to follow sellers and receive personalized product recommendations by ‘liking’ and commenting on listings, will enrich the eBay C2C experience. Google Makes Gems Chatbots Available via Workspace Apps

Google is making it easier to access its Gems customizable Gemini chatbots by bringing them to the side panel in Google Workspace apps, including Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drive, and Gmail. The task-specific Gems AI assistants are meant to help with common tasks and eliminate what Google calls “repetitive prompting.” Now they’ll be usable without even prompting Gemini to open. While Google offers pre-made Gems, they can also be customized or individually created to meet specific needs. Both custom and templated Gems can be installed in side panels, leveraging capabilities like @-mentioning or accessing files and folders. Meta Platforms has announced new generative AI features developed for marketers that produce video advertisements. Announced as part of Meta’s Advantage+ ad suite, marketers can now use up to 20 product stills to create multi-scene video ads with music and text overlay. The company has also added generative AI voices and virtual try-ons to its Advantage+ marketer toolkit. Meta Touts 35 Percent Q1 Profit Jump, ‘Personalized’ AI App

Meta Platforms revenue for Q1 was $42.3 billion, up 16 percent year-over-year and besting Wall Street estimates of $41.3 billion. Profits were up 35 percent to $16.6 billion, hurtling past analyst estimates of $13.6 billion. Advertising, up nearly 15 percent for the quarter compared to last year, comfortably passed $41 billion, driving the revenue performance. Meta began Q2 by launching its anticipated standalone Meta AI app. Built with natively multimodal Llama 4 models, the company is positioning the Meta AI app as “a personal AI designed around voice conversations,” according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. OpenAI Improves ChatGPT for Shopping with Built-In Pricing

OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT’s shopping capabilities, adding product recommendations to help users discover products and brands. The chatbot’s results for shopping queries will now automatically include things like prices, images and ratings, much like searches using Amazon or Google Shopping. The company says that products it features in shopping search results “are chosen independently and are not ads.” With the company under pressure to turn a profit, a challenge for many AI startups, that could of course change. Meta Platforms has introduced a new Instagram Reels feature called Blend that lets users customize a video feed for themselves and friends. The invite-only Blends can be built for a single friend or within a group chat. Once created, the feed is refreshed each day with new content, with all members able to add material. The idea is to let friends explore and discover content together while adding a new interactive element that harkens back to social media’s roots, cutting through the recent trend of viral influencer content and ads. Netflix Tests Content Recommendations Powered by OpenAI

Netflix is testing a new recommendation engine that uses OpenAI technology to suggest viewing options based on input that goes beyond the usual parameters of cast and genre. The system is being introduced gradually and is already available in Australia and New Zealand where subscribers must opt-in to try it out, reports say, noting it allows input of more nuanced parameters, including mood, to populate search results. The partnership underscores OpenAI’s efforts to have its technology applied practically and commercially as it seeks to transition from a non-profit to a for-profit public benefit business structure. Midjourney Launches V7 Image Generator with Voice Prompts

Generative AI program Midjourney has issued V7 in alpha, marking its first new model in almost a year. Notable updates include personalization turned on by default, which users must first set up — a process Midjourney says takes 5 minutes — and can then toggle on or off at any time.
