Samsung Reveals Galaxy Phones, Watch 8, AI Features, More

New ultra-slim Galaxy Z Flip7 and Galaxy Z Fold7 smartphones, three new models of smartwatches, and the debut of One UI 8 were among the highlights of Samsung’s summer Galaxy Unpacked event yesterday. The Galaxy Z Fold7 is just 8.9mm thick when folded (and 4.2mm unfolded, less than three pennies stacked) and features a larger main screen than its predecessor at 8 inches (up from 7.6 inches) as well as a bigger 6.5-inch outer display. A big change to the Galaxy Z Flip7 is the fact that its 4.1-inch cover screen extends around the two camera lenses. Meanwhile, Google has introduced AI updates to Android, delivering new Gemini capabilities for Samsung’s mobile lineup.

The Galaxy Z Flip7 inner display is 6.9 inches, marginally larger than the Flip6. Samsung is touting the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 as “a pocket-sized AI powerhouse with a new edge-to-edge FlexWindow.” AI features include voice search and are accessible from the FlexWindow.

“Samsung apps like Calendar, Notes, and Reminders now support Gemini Live integrations — previously only available in Google apps — while the Galaxy Z Flip7 is getting a Gemini Live update that enables camera-sharing on the cover screen,” per The Verge.

All of Samsung’s new devices come with One UI 8, “Samsung’s skin and apps for Android 16, which brings a new look of its own and increased Gemini AI integration to its partner’s products,” writes CNET, adding that “lots of One UI 8’s feature updates are agentic AI-based thanks to Gemini,” Google’s AI.

The Flip7 “features a Samsung Exynos 2500 processor, 12GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and a larger 4,300mAh battery” than the Fold6, and has the same “50MP wide-angle lens, 12MP ultra-wide sensor, and 10MP front-facing camera,” per The Verge. The clamshell-style Flip7 is 6.5mm thick unfolded (about three nickels stacked).

Meanwhile, spec bumps to the higher-end Fold7 include a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor that accommodates up to 16GB of RAM. Maximum storage is 1TB. “Samsung gave the rear camera setup a small boost by pairing an upgraded 200-megapixel, wide-angle sensor with a 12MP ultrawide lens and a 10MP telephoto camera,” reports The Verge, noting that “unlike previous generations, the Fold7 doesn’t support the S Pen.”

Available for preorder now and shipping July 25, the Fold 7 starts at $2,000 while the Flip7 is priced at $1,100.

Samsung also debuted the first Flip Fan Edition phone, the Galaxy 7 Flip7 FE, which retails for $900. Unlike the Flip7, its 3.4-inch cover display “borders the camera bar rather than extending beyond it,” The Verge points out.

Samsung also debuted its second-gen Galaxy Watch Ultra, with 64GB of storage, starting at $650. The Galaxy Watch Ultra, Watch8 and Watch8 Classic all boast a “squircle” face design for a wrist-hugging fit. The Watch8 starts at $350 while the Watch8 Classic starts at $500.
