Google’s Pixel 10 Smartphone Line Packs AI-Driven Features

The new Pixel 10 series of smartphones were formally debuted this week at the Made by Google event. The four new models — the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 XL and Pixel 10 Pro Fold — all run on the new Tensor G5 chipset, which is 34 percent faster than the G4 used with the Pixel 9s and integrates the first image processor designed by Google. Gemini Nano powers on-device AI features including Magic Cue, a contextual suggestion system underpinning native apps. The Pixel 10s are the first to have magnetic Qi2 fast wireless charging. Sales begin August 28. The company also unveiled the Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds 2a, both shipping October 9.

Wired reports the most significant upgrade on the $800 Pixel 10 “is the inclusion of a 5X telephoto camera, meaning you’re finally getting a triple-camera system to rival the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy S25,” one of the few midrange phones with a 5X optical camera. Pixel 10 places it alongside 50MP wide and 48MP ultrawide lenses.

“This new option delivers 10x optical image quality and Super Res Zoom up to 20x,” writes ZDNet.

The 6.3-inch Actua screen reaches 3,000 nits, while the top speaker offers better bass and richer audio. Tom’s Guide suggests “the upcoming iPhone 17 and Galaxy S26 releases have a lot to be worried about” with the Pixel 10.

The $1,000 Pixel 10 Pro has a 6.3-inch Super Actua screen that hits 3,300 nits “and a better 5x telephoto lens,” ZDNet adds.

Exclusive to the Pixel 10 Pro and the Pixel 10 XL is Pro Res Zoom, which “lets you digitally zoom in with the viewfinder to capture photos at 100X and still end up with something usable,” writes Wired. A Google blog post notes “Pro Res Zoom is the largest AI model ever used on Pixel Camera.”

Both models can capture 8K video, assisted by Google Video Boost technology, reports Wired, deep diving the Pixel 10 cameras and AI photo features. Wired also explores general Gemini Nano features, which include on-device translation to and from English, in real time, simulaing each speaker’s voice on a call or live.

The $1,200 Pixel Pro XL has a 6.8-inch screen and is the only model with 25-watt Qi2 support.

The $1,800 Pixel Pro Fold has a 6.4-inch Actua outer display and an 8-inch Super Actua inner display and a “gearless, high-strength hinge” that gives Google the confidence to promise 10-years of folding. ZDNet says it’s “the first foldable phone to feature an IP68 rating.”

The Pixel 10s feature Android new Material 3 Expressive design language, also built into Wear OS6 and the Pixel Watch 4, showcased at the same Made by Google 2025 event, starting at $350.

Also previewed were the $130 Pixel Buds 2a, which TechRadar calls a good value, better and cheaper than the Buds 2.
