Vivo Unveils Its Latest Smartphone with Emphasis on Camera

The new Vivo X200 Ultra smartphone is being released in China with a triple back-camera array and the ability to upgrade the main 35mm camera to zooms — including an 8.7x converter — for capturing still photos or video that makes it comparable to a dedicated device. No news yet if or when it will launch in the U.S., but shutterbugs are buzzing. Powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite — the processor inside Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra — the X200 Ultra packs up to 16GB of RAM and can accommodate up to 1TB of storage. An optional photographer kit comes with a removable grip and 8.7x converter that captures native telephoto.

PhoneArena says the X200 Ultra “will undoubtedly go down as one of the best camera phones of 2025,” calling it “a powerhouse Android flagship: not just for its camera system but for its top-tier core specs.”

The Vivo X200 Ultra starts at the equivalent of about $890 with an entry level 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. A loaded 16GB/1TB version is in the area of roughly $1,100. A 6.82-inch OLED screen and fingerprint sensor are part of the package.

Zippy 90W charging speeds via USB-C cable and up to 40W wireless charging with a compatible charger are additional features. The phone is dust and water resistant and comes in either silver, red or black.

The company “hasn’t released specifics on battery life — often an issue with smartphones that are supposed to double as other gadgets — beyond saying users can ‘rely on their device throughout the day,’” The Verge writes.

Android Authority waxes enthusiastically about the “wonderfully versatile” native 35mm focal length, calling the 24mm standard adopted by “99 percent of smartphones” inconveniently wide. With brands like “Xiaomi and Apple offering the ability to set 35mm as the default focal length in their camera apps, Vivo’s approach seems like the logical next step.”

Vivo’s focus has been Asian markets, and this model’s predecessor, the X100 Ultra, released last year, never made it to the U.S.
