Microsoft has entered into a five-year strategic partnership with the Premier League, replacing Oracle as the British football association’s official cloud partner in addition to providing AI services. Premier League mobile and web apps will begin featuring a chatbot powered by Copilot and Microsoft AI, which will also be used for the league’s fantasy games. The Premier League says it has 1.8 billion fans in 189 countries and claims to be “the world’s most-watched football league.” Microsoft will also help modernize the League’s technical infrastructure, both internally and in broadcast operations. The “open agentic web” was a major focus at the Microsoft Build conference, with dozens of new AI tools and features aimed at helping developers create autonomous systems that can shoulder routine and repetitive duties for human taskmasters and even undertake things like independent research with minimal supervision. The company unveiled a new GitHub Copilot coding agent that “supercharges” the AI assistant, allowing it to undertake more complex tasks and collaborate with other agents. Copilot Tuning was introduced as a “low-code” customization tool for adding corporate data to AI models. In all, Microsoft made more than 50 news announcements. As enterprises rely more heavily on AI integration to compile research and summarize things like meetings and email threads, the need for contextual search has become increasingly important. AI startup Cohere has released Embed 4 to make the task easier. Embed 4 is a multimodal embedding model that transforms text, images and mixed data (like PDFs, slides or tables) into numerical representations (or “embeddings”) for tasks including semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and classification. Microsoft has unveiled a new AI model called Muse that can generate game visuals and controller actions and understands 3D space. The new model can create complex gameplay sequences with accurate physics and character behaviors. Classified by Microsoft as the first World and Human Action Model (WHAM), Muse was trained from over seven years’ worth of human gameplay data from the Xbox game “Bleeding Edge,” published by UK-based Microsoft Games subsidiary Ninja Theory. Muse can, in addition to game goals, provide research insights to support all sorts of creative use of generative AI, Microsoft says.
