Netflix Is Testing Vertical Video and Second-Screen Features
November 4, 2025
At TechCrunch Disrupt, Netflix CTO Elizabeth Stone discussed changes including a kids’ profile redesign, more vertical videos, and integrating interactive and immersive features. The latter category includes a more immersive homepage, real-time polls and live party games, while the updated children’s profiles aim to simplify navigation. Viewing histories and watchlists for kids are now under a single My Netflix heading and recommendations will now refresh in real time. Stone emphasized that when it comes to vertical video the streamer will not directly compete with TikTok, but acknowledged there are times its viewers want “something more snackable.”
Conceding that few details were shared, TechRadar writes “the suggestion is that one way vertical video could be used is for sharing clips of shows and movies with other people, building on the existing Moments feature.”

Moments is a short-form feature that allows Netflix users to clip and share their favorite scenes from the platform’s content offerings.
“There’s potential for seeding those short clips into the vertical video feed, but Stone didn’t directly confirm this plan,” instead suggesting “more vaguely the company would experiment with ‘different types of content’ that could be in the vertical feed, as well as ‘different ways to clip and share content,'” TechCrunch reports.
“We’re testing a vertical video feed on mobile devices that starts to reimagine what mobile is, and kind of meets consumers where they are now and how they’re using mobile today,” Stone said, according to TechCrunch, noting that the experiment “allows members to scroll through clips of its original titles,” thus combining short-form viewing with promotional exposure for its series and films.
“However, the company may have bigger plans for how that feed can be utilized,” TechCrunch added.
The company is also planning to gradually make its homepages “more dynamic and immersive, with a number of themes rolling out over time,” including holiday-inspired makeovers that change seasonally as well as show-themed wrappers, writes TechRadar, noting “a ‘Bridgerton’-themed homepage design is in the works, which could well arrive with ‘Bridgerton’ season 4.”
Tom’s Guide focuses largely on the streamer’s emphasis on interaction and immersion, with features like real-time voting, coming with the “Star Search” reboot next year, “a way for viewers to ‘feel like they’re part of the story,” Tom’s says Stone shared at the Disrupt event.
Since “younger users often rewatch their favorite content” Netflix says the kids’ profile revamp “should make that easier,” TechRadar writes, noting that “many parts of these profiles aren’t changing, including the parental controls, character-themed rows, and ‘mystery box’ suggestions.”
