Publishers Plan to Bring Transparency to Digital Advertising

The digital advertising business is often opaque, and now 16 companies, banded together as Source, are calling for a more transparent pipeline as well as standards and best practices for sharing data on fees and authenticating content. Oracle and News Corporation, among the other ad agencies, publishers and ad tech firms, hope their efforts will boost digital advertising beyond behemoths Facebook and Google. New Software Can Detect Breaking News Leads on Social Media

Dataminr is a software tool that can find patterns in the millions of tweets posted every day to help news organizations spot leads for breaking news. CNN, BBC, and Gannett had already been testing Dataminr before the software was officially released on Tuesday. The new “Dataminr for News” includes a new mobile app, which will send alerts to notify journalists of developing stories. Amplify: News Corp. Offers Educational Tablet to Schools

At the SXSWedu conference in Austin, Texas earlier this month, Joel I. Klein of News Corporation’s Amplify education division (and former chancellor of New York City schools), took the stage to make a surprising announcement: a 10-inch Android Amplify Tablet for K-12 schoolchildren.
