CES 2013: Texas Instruments Cautious About 4K for the Home

Texas Instruments was on hand at CES with its DLP Pico Projectors, which can be used for applications from business to the home. The company of course also makes the 4K DLP Cinema chip found in digital cinema projectors from Barco, Christie and NEC, but TI’s strategic production manager Tony Adamson showed caution when asked about 4K for the home.

He suggested that single chip front projectors used in home cinema today would transition to 4K “over time,” but added that currently there is a barrier in that “there’s a lack of content and the expense of producing content.”

He added that “futuristic” 8K is currently not on the company’s roadmap.

For additional opportunities for 4K cinema projectors, Adamson said the company is looking toward uses including theme parks and cruise lines.

TI has multiple rooms and suites at CES including Meeting Room N115.
