Samsung’s New QD-OLED Monitor Called a ‘Game Changer’

Samsung Display has revealed plans to begin mass production on a new type of monitor with ultra-high-definition resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. Samsung says this is the highest pixel density and UHD resolution among available OLED monitors, and that the display also offers super-fast response speed to thrill gamers. The new QD-OLED monitors will initially be offered in two sizes: 32 inches and 27 inches. Typically, 30-inch QHD monitors offer 2560×1440 pixels, which Samsung says is fine for “general-purpose” use, adding that “consumers who enjoy gaming and high-definition video content will have a strong preference for UHD products.” Continue reading Samsung’s New QD-OLED Monitor Called a ‘Game Changer’

CES: Samsung Flex Hybrid Mobile Device Can Fold and Slide

Samsung Display has debuted a concept mobile device that both folds and slides, the Flex Hybrid. The company’s “smart mobile device” prototype unfolds to reveal a display on the left side, with the right side sliding outward to expand screen real estate. The Flex Hybrid’s OLED screen expands from a 10.5-inch 4:3 configuration to a 12.4-inch 16:10 display. Samsung Infinity Screen: the World’s Largest Stadium Display

Super Bowl 56 is now history, and the massive 70,000-square-foot Samsung Infinity Screen that debuted at the game made history, too. Hanging directly over LA’s SoFi Stadium field in an open loop, the Infinity Screen defies categorization. Not only is it the largest stadium display in the world, according to Samsung, but it is designed differently, hanging on the horizontal, with images displayed on the interior and exterior vertical surfaces, so fans can get a clear view no matter where they’re sitting. Totaling 80 million pixels, the panels soar as high as 40-feet (about four stories). Continue reading Samsung Infinity Screen: the World’s Largest Stadium Display

CES: Sony Touts 8K, QD-OLED TVs, Bravia Cam for Gestures

The Z9K Mini-LED (8K) and A95K HDR OLED (4K) will ship with Bravia Cam, which adds video chat and gesture control. The camera will also help with brightness settings, dialogue emphasis and sound balance by tracking the viewer’s position with regard to the screen. CES: Samsung Promises QD-OLED Details in ‘Several Weeks’

Samsung announced a dazzling lineup of TVs at CES 2022, including the ultimate MicroLED, which one writer called “110 inches of entertainment insanity,” with a $150,000 price tag to match. The Neo QLED line and Lifestyle TVs also impressed. But one model generating a lot of attention wasn’t introduced as part of the company’s 2022 lineup. Rather, the Samsung Electronics QD-OLED that quietly earned the company a CES 2022 Innovation Award launched speculation as to whether Samsung was about to enter a race with Sony to get the first consumer QD-OLED to market. CES 2022: 8K Association Promotes the High-Res Ecosystem

The 8K Association was founded about three years ago to draw attention to the nascent 8K value chain and now, says executive director Chris Chinnock, that entire ecosystem, from production and post to live-to-air events, has become a reality. TV brands, panel makers and chip set providers are the 8K Association members that will primarily be at CES 2002 in January. The Association will not have a booth at the confab, but Chinnock will be making the rounds to tout some of the highlights of 8K’s progression over the last few years. Japan has been broadcasting 8K since December 2018, for example, and the Summer Olympics in 8K were “a big hit.” Continue reading CES 2022: 8K Association Promotes the High-Res Ecosystem

LG Display, a major panel supplier for Apple, will reportedly supply TV displays to rival Samsung as early as this year in a deal that is expected to replace the Sharp-Foxconn venture as a lead supplier to Samsung. A deal between LG Display and Samsung (the world’s largest television manufacturer) would mark a first for the South Korean rivals. Meanwhile, Sharp and Foxconn are considering expansion into the U.S. Continue reading LG Display Signs Deal to Supply LCD TV Panels to Samsung
