At AMIA’s The Reel Thing conference in Hollywood, film director/producer Marcus Dillistone, Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences managing director Andy Maltz and Academy Film Archive director Michael Pogorzelski presented a case study of an ACES reformatting and archiving project, with Dillistone’s 1999 short film “The Troop.” The topic is the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, and the film had a royal premiere at BAFTA, with film industry and military guests as well as a British princess in attendance. Alchemy Virtual Reality Studio Takes Viewers Back In Time

Atlantic Productions, a British production company known for its educational programs, documentaries, and Emmy-award winning visual effects, has just launched a new virtual reality studio to create content for Facebook’s Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus VR technology. Alchemy’s first project is collaborating with Sir David Attenborough, a celebrated naturalist, to take viewers on a journey to meet the creatures that lived about 550 million years ago. Atlantic Develops VR Content for Oculus Rift, Project Morpheus

Adrian Pennington forwarded us news that British television producer Atlantic Productions is developing virtual reality narrative content, including documentary, CG and drama pilots for Facebook’s Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus. Atlantic Productions is the company behind noted nature documentaries such as “Galapagos,” “Kingdom of Plants” and the BAFTA-winning “Flying Monsters 3D.” Atlantic hopes to bundle some of its VR content with the Oculus Rift when it becomes commercially available.
