Internet of Things: Technicolor Brings Qeo to AllSeen Alliance

The AllSeen Alliance has announced that Technicolor is joining the organization as a premier member and will contribute its Qeo technology. According to the press release, Technicolor will work with Qualcomm Connected Experiences and the AllSeen Alliance to accelerate the unification of ecosystems related to the “Internet of Things.” Qeo was developed as a secure and future-proof communication framework that enables a user-friendly experience for connected devices and services.

“The AllSeen Alliance, formed in December 2013, expands upon the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) to include more functionality and interactions across various brands and sectors, such as the connected home, healthcare, education, automotive and enterprise,” notes the release.

“The members of the AllSeen Alliance contribute software and engineering resources as part of their collaboration that builds on the open source AllJoyn software and services framework, originally developed by Qualcomm Innovation Center, Inc. The addition of Qeo further strengthens the Alliance’s ability to expand the ecosystem of companies working on IoE [‘Internet of Everything’].”

Technicolor’s Qeo will offer the AllSeen Alliance a more data-centric publish/subscribe set of APIs. “By combining Qeo’s APIs and secure architecture with AllJoyn’s software and services framework for discovery, connectivity and interoperable services, developers and device makers will have even more options and even greater flexibility in how they implement a fully distributed Internet of Everything,” notes the release.

In related news, Technicolor announced that it has signed a new multi-year patent license agreement for LG smartphones and tablets.

“Technicolor’s pioneering work in video technology is now widely spread in smartphones and tablets to offer consumers a media rich experience and we are pleased to welcome LG as a licensee and offer a comprehensive license to our patent portfolio,” said Boris Teksler, head of technology. “As new media-rich devices become pervasive we are pleased to expand our offering and share our patented technologies.”
